First Muscat-Riyadh Bus Service Launched

The first international passenger bus service between Muscat and Riyadh began on 21st Feb 2024, utilizing the direct route through the Empty Quarter road connecting the two nations.

Rashid al Khanjary, Owner of Al Khanjary Transport, confirmed the details, stating that the bus will depart daily from Muscat at 6 am and from Riyadh (Azizia area) at 5 pm. The journey is expected to take around 18 to 20 hours, factoring in immigration and border formalities. Departure timings from Riyadh will be adjusted based on passenger demand.

The route in Oman will include stops at Ruwi, Nizwa, and Ibri, while in Saudi Arabia, the service will stop at Dammam en route to Riyadh.

To promote the service, the one-way fare until the end of the month will be RO25 or SR250, after which it will increase to RO35 or SR350. The Saudi authorities have set a minimum requirement of 25 passengers per bus.

Despite the slightly longer route through Dammam, the dual carriageway promises a comfortable journey.

The company plans to have two drivers per bus, with periodic stops for rest. Both citizens and expatriates can benefit from this service, with expatriates having the option to avail of a visa, while some nationals may qualify for visa-on-arrival or other exemptions.
